Mukherjea had refused to take the test in 2015, the year when she was arrested along with her ex-husband Shyamvar Pinturam Rai, for allegedly abducting and killing Sheena Bora and subsequently burning her corpse.

Mukherjea, had stated in her application that in the year 2015, she was mentally, emotionally and physically disturbed and was under tremendous pressure not to undergo the test.

She also stated that now she is much better and should be allowed to undergo the test in the name of justice.

During a polygraph test, some sensors are attached to a person which records his/her breathing rate, pulse, blood pressure, perspiration etc.

When the polygraph test starts, the questioner asks three or four simple questions to establish the norms for the person’s signals. Then the real questions being tested by the polygraph are asked.

A polygraph examiner can establish whether a person is lying by examining the graphs and checking whether the vital signs like blood pressure, pulse etc changed significantly on any of the questions.
